Brocade Bouquet
These flowers bloom from beautiful, timeless prints. Lush, intricate prints from William Morris make any quilt pattern beautiful, but they’re especially lovely in this floral applique design. Red flowers bloom against a pale background, showing the textures, prints and colors to stunning effect. The delicate interplay of color, print and shape make this an elegant piece you’ll be proud to use and display.
Tricia used the fusible raw-edge applique technique for all patches except the C Templates for the flower centers, which are done with turned-edge applique. The mix of techniques adds a dimensional touch to the flowers. Whichever method you choose to do the applique, it will be beautiful.
This pattern goes to show that applique designs don’t need to be done in solids or tone-on-tone fabrics. The applique shapes are enhanced by the prints, and they’re shown to great effect without taking over. The wide border is perfect for displaying another, more colorful print that relates to those used in the blocks. Gather up your favorite bundle of prints and see what you can grow!
