Evan
Krisanne Watkins is a regular contributor to Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting. Her quilts, which typically feature sashing, on-point settings, and quilt blocks framed with more patchwork, are some of the more challenging we publish…And we love every single one. Evan is a spectacular example.
Working in traditional, reproduction-looking fabrics (another hallmark of her style!), Krisanne made Evan using a darker, richer palette. The cranberry red of the border and setting triangles is dramatic, and the cheddar-y gold in the blocks shines. The black and green strip-pieced sashing does an amazing job of framing the blocks, and the Nine-Patch Star cornerstones within the sashing is that extra bit of patchwork that adds to much charm to the design. The blocks themselves are built with an Eight-Point Star at the center, with a radiating patchwork frame. Krisanne created the block in two different colorways to incorporate into the design.
The strip-pieced inner border mimics the sashing, and the strip-piecing is reversed in the Nine-Patch corner blocks.
It’s a larger twin-sized quilt, and the borders and setting triangles provide some wonderful space for quilting.
Evan is just a wonderful quilt design! Thank you, Krisanne!
