Marie
Marie is not an easy quilt. It is not quick, it is not simple, and it is not small. What Marie is, though, is spectacular.
The trick to a challenging quilt it to let yourself enjoy the process. Approach your partial seams with patience, take care in sorting your reversed A and B units, smile as you construct the pieced sashing, and, throughout it all, proceed thoughtfully. Sew slowly, appreciating each stitch the needle makes.
The fabric colors—berry pinks, late-summer greens, and wheat-hued backgrounds—are charming, and set off the wonderful effect in the different blocks. There’s a Pinwheel Star-styled block in the sashing (framed by checkerboard patches), and a larger block featuring Triangle-Squares and sashing.
Even in the iron-cold of a leafless November, this quilt spread over the guest room bed will evoke the warmth of sun-splashed wildflower meadows. And whenever you see it, you can pause to take pride in your patchwork.
