Spooked Geese, designed by Laura Piland, is a fun and modern Halloween throw quilt. This quilt was constructed with (32) giant flying geese blocks, which made construction fast and easy. Laura used one fat quarter bundle of Cats Bats and Jacks by My Mind’s Eye and Confetti Cotton for Riley Blake to make the entire quilt. The border was made out of leftover scraps from the fat quart bundle – so thrifty! Finished quilt is 64” x 64”, making it perfect to snuggle up under on a cool October night.

Notes from Spooked Geese designer, Laura Piland of Slice of Pi Quilts

I assembled the quilt using the stitch-and-flip technique and Aurifil 50wt thread.

When sewing, I sewed another line ½” away from the diagonal seam, before cutting off the excess, to make bonus Half-Square Triangle at the same time. I plan to make another quilt with these HSTs at a later date. The oversized blocks allow for the cute Halloween novelty prints to be the focus of the quilt. Big blocks also make for a quick finish!
