There’s no question about it: succulents are on trend. Just enter the word “succulents” on your Internet search engine and you’ll find millions of examples of these versatile plants. Fabric designers and quilters have taken this trend to heart, with loads of prints and patterns featuring succulents of all sorts. Designer Amy Friend has pushed the interpretation of these plants beyond the ordinary in her quilt, “Agave”.
Spikey succulent plants, such as the agave, served as inspiration for this paper-pieced design – but the color palette in shades of purple is distinctly Amy. The completed blocks are set off center and, in each column, one purple spike in the block is removed. The quilt has a lot of movement as the design radiates from the off-center line.
