About this Quilt
Our anniversary celebration continues with this remake of Sherri’s Scrappy Stars pattern, originally published in our November/December 2010 issue. Our updated version has a more controlled palette than the original, but a similar scrappy freedom in the fabric placement.
The most unstructured aspect of this layout is the color placement in the Nine Patches in every block. Take a moment and study the photos and pattern diagrams to note how Eileen used the colors. Many of the Block Y’s have Nine Patches with 5 yellow A’s; these are the Nine Patch 1’s. The Nine Patch 2’s and 3’s are randomly used throughout the remaining Block Y’s and Block Z’s.
Our cutting instructions reflect Eileen’s placement, but feel free to plan and cut alternate arrangements if you wish. Each Block Y uses the same assorted white print in the background, while each block Z uses matching assorted yellow patches in the corners and a white print between the star points. Every block has matching star points from assorted dark prints. Read the cutting instructions for matching sets carefully and sort matching sets into 63 block sets before you sew to stay organized.
Use an accurate ¼˝ seam allowance throughout to ensure all elements of the quilt fit together well. Handle all bias edges carefully to avoid distortion.
