About this Quilt
Strip pieced blocks are interspersed with square in a square blocks in Kathy Sawyer’s eye-catching queen-size bed quilt. The composition makes it tricky to tell where one block ends and another begins, drawing the viewer in. It looks complex, but strip piecing makes it so quick and easy to sew!
This pattern is really unique in the way that it blends the different blocks in a modern, asymmetrical way. There are many different fabrics in the black, white and green colorway that grow and bloom together in an interesting, vibrant way. Though the palette is limited, the quilt is intriguing and unusual, and different from the traditional block layouts you normally see.
“The emotion in this quilt comes from the Lily of the Valley flowers in the print,” Kathy said. “My grandmother grew them under the boughs of her huge pine trees in the front yard right near the driveway. Walking up to her house was always a time of excitement for me as a child, and that excitement was often embellished with the glorious scent of these tiny, fragrant flowers. I will never see or smell these flowers without thinking of my grandmother and smiling deeply from inside my soul.”
