About this Quilt
What do you get when you mix different sized flying geese blocks, rotating blocks, gorgeous jewel tone batiks and a spectacular on-pointe layout? You get Terrie Peterson’s terrific quilt pattern Fall Migration! Pattern features the fast flying geese technique and options for alternate layouts. Terrie’s design is gorgeous in batiks, but it would also be stunning using monochromatic colors or even multicolored scraps.
My husband is an avid hunter. In the winter months, he is always pointing out the geese flying overhead. It has made me more aware of the migration of these large birds. So, we watch as they fly south and again when they return north.
I decided to make a quilt with “flying geese” looking blocks in reminder of these migrations. When I got through with designing the quilt, I saw another aspect of it. It became a metaphor for living and how we are pulled in all different directions.
I looked over the design and rotated the outer corners so they all pointed inside because I wanted to say that’s where we need to look for direction.
