Joanie Holton and Melanie Greseth of Tailormade by Design, created this “traditional made modern” quilt pattern. Modern Pioneer consists of 25 (12 ¼”) blocks. Each Ohio Star block is identical in design but the fabrics vary from block to block. Mixing this traditional block with more contemporary fabrics is what makes this quilt “traditional made modern”. Using even brighter, spunkier fabrics in your own version of Modern Pioneer would give your quilt and decidedly modern feel.

Simple piecing methods are used in this pattern including Triangle-Squares, Three-Color Hourglass units and strip piecing. With only one block repeated throughout, this quilt comes together in just a few weeks time. Hop on the pioneer bandwagon and make yourself a modern-day traditional throw!
