Addicted to Scraps - Moth in the WindowBlock

Moth in the Window

This design is from the Addicted to Scraps series by Bonnie Hunter.

Bust your stash of recycled fabric.

Instructions to make the 8″ Moth in the Window block can be found in Bonnie Hunter’s Addicted to Scraps column in the November/December ‘11 issue of Quiltmaker.

For a 52” x 62” quilt (as shown), you will need 30 Moth in the Window blocks, 42 4-patches for the cornerstones and 71 rectangles for sashes. To make a 4-patch cut 2 1-1/2” squares from 2 different fabrics. Sew the squares together. Repeat to make 42 4-patches. Cut 71 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles for the sashing strips.

Sew 6 4-patches and 5 rectangles together for the sash rows. Sew 5 Moth in the Window blocks and 6 rectangles together to make the rows. Sew the rows together as shown.
