Transparency, depth and illusion… we love this quilt because embodies those traits and more.
Inspired by the mountains near her home, designer Kate Colleran started designing this quilt as an exercise in transparency. The hills closest are large and dark, made with the deepest color. As the view disappears into the distance, the mountains become smaller and lighter against the white background. Some are covered in snow, while others are obscured by pale clouds. The result is a sophisticated abstract quilt in pleasing, calm tones perfect for a mountain hideaway or urban loft.
For maximum effect, six distinct gray values of fabric are used, ranging from pale to deep gray, offset by a punch of purple. The variety of values adds to the perspective of mountains receding into the distance or pushing forward. The quilt would be equally stunning made in another color way but keeping to the variety of pale and dark fabrics.
