It is amazing how often those much repeated adages of our elders ring true… In viewing “Quilt Invaders” by Jo Avery, one can’t help think how the innovative marriage of the HST with the Drunkard’s Path block proves “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts”.
By combining a simple curved Drunkard’s Path block with individual spikes created by linear placement of HSTs around its edge, Jo made an entirely new composition. And like so many other modern quilters, she placed her new blocks on point so they would float over a neutral field. This arrangement reminded her of an old-school video game, hence the name.
