About this Quilt
Finished Size : 77" x 72"
Rating : Intermediate
Designed By : Malka Dubrawsky
Inspired by the lyrics to the Shaker tune “Simple Gifts,” this quilt celebrates the beauty of that which is clean and straightforward. It is graphic, direct, and decidedly modern, yet the quilt has the gentleness and quiet presence reminiscent of a simple Shaker chair. “Simple Gifts” is capable of turning a contemporary home into a “place just right.”
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
Where true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed,
To turn, turn, will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning, we come ‘round right.”
— Lyrics to the Shaker hymn ”Simple Gifts” by Elder Joseph Brackett
