This quilt is all about negative space, and the QuiltCon 2018 judging panel agrees: Designer Daisy Aschehoug won a third-place ribbon for this entrant into the Modern Quilt Guild’s annual show. Daisy’s quilt is a masterful combination of light and dark, pattern and print, texture and shadow. It vibrates and sparkles all on its own.

Inspired by metal work on an Oslo grocery store, “Sirkel” (the Norwegian word for ‘cirle’) will test your advanced skills in precision piecing and curved seams. Be sure to include favorite scraps in the strip piecing to add variation and interest to the composition. Daisy used a variety of homespun and subtly patterned black fabrics for the center motif. Hunt through your own scraps for appropriate pieces at least 1 ½” x 13″ in size.

And if you love negative space for showing off your quilting stitch, this quilt is the one for you!
