Sisters of the Dark

About this Quilt

Sisters of the Dark is a stunning quilt designed by Krystal Jakelwicz. Krystal used De La Luna by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics when making this beauty. Although black is not often used as a main color in quilts, black absolutely makes this quilt special. The deep black background makes the rich, vibrant colors with in the quilt really pop. It is constructed using triangle-squares and stich-and-flip techniques, making Sisters of the Dark easy to construct. Finishing at 66 ½” x 66 ½”, this quilt is the perfect Halloween or Day of the Dead throw.

Krystal’s Inspiration for Sisters of the Dark…

I was inspired by the fabric collection itself. When I saw Tula Pink’s De La Luna fabric featuring Luna’s sisters I first thought of the Lunar Eclipse. During special lunar eclipses, when the sky is dark, you will also be able to see stars and planets. Since this collection is special to many Tula Pink fans, I wanted to give each sister their “star” because they are the stars of the collection. Within the face panels I wanted to utilize anything else since the faces are “fussy cut”, which in this case, I have chosen to feature the “eye” for cornerstones through out the quilt. I personally like using Creative Grids Charming 5” square template by Carolyn Griffin to fussy cut the faces out so I can see clearly what will be shown once pieced together using the center points on that specific ruler.
