About this Quilt
Summertime Rolls, by Janice Joyner, is a beautiful summertime table runner. It’s made using triangle-squares and Pinwheel blocks so this fun runner comes together quickly – you could piece the top in a day! This runner finishes at 18″ x 42” but the size could be altered by adding or subtracting blocks.
Q&A with the designer, Janice Joyner
When did you take your first quilting class?
I took my first quilting class in 1992 and like many quilters, I was smitten!
Were you inspired by anything in particular when you designed this quilt?
The desire to create something with 6” finished blocks. Too many quilters won’t try small blocks because they lack confidence in piecing skills. Trying something small, like a table runner, is a perfect way to practice.
Did this quilt present any interesting design challenges?
I limited the number of fabrics to 12, but still made a very scrappy looking runner by making 16 triangle-squares from each fabric. Twelve were used for the outer frame and 4 were used for the Pinwheels. I have called this controlled scrappy.
Can you imagine this quilt in other colors?
Shades of blue could easily make this a winter runner. The Pinwheels would take on a snowflake kind of feeling.
