Triple Exposure

About this Quilt

quilt-triple-exposure-flatTriangles swirl like a pinwheel creating an optical illusion in this gorgeous quilt pattern from designer Nancy Allen. This quilt looks like it is made of difficult to piece triangles, but in fact it is made from paper pieced squares. The fabric selection is key in creating the look of an over exposed photograph. Triple Exposure was made using the Spot On collection and some Kona Solids, both from Robert Kaufman Fabrics, to create the graduated colors in this quilt, but you could also use some of the beautiful ombré fabrics that are on the market for a similar effect. Nancy was inspired by the concept of “Hidden Blocks” when she designed this quilt. If this design had cornerstones and sashing, it would create a Shoo-Fly Block, instead she created a pinwheel effect with a secondary Shoo-fly design appearing between the blocks because of the fabrics used.
