About this Quilt
This design is from the Addicted to Scraps series by Bonnie Hunter.
Instructions to make the Twirl Around block can be found in Bonnie Hunter’s Addicted to Scraps column in the March/April ’15 issue of Quiltmaker.
For a 55″ x 55″ crib quilt (as shown), you will need 25 Twirl Around blocks. For alternate squares, cut 24 squares, 6-1/2” x 6-1/2”. For vertical sashes, cut 56 rectangles, 1-1/2” x 6-1/2”. For horizontal sashes, cut 8 strips, 1-1/2” x 50-1/2”. For the border, cut 2 3” x 53” strips for the side strips and 2 3” x 58” strips for the top and bottom strips.
Sew 4 blocks, 3 alternate squares and 8 vertical sashes together to make a row. Make 4 of these rows. Sew 3 blocks, 4 alternate squares and 8 vertical sashes together to make a row. Make 3 of these rows.
Alternating rows, sew the rows and horizontal sashes together as shown in the diagram. Refer to “Borders” in Basic Lessons to measure and trim the border side strips. Sew the border side strips to the quilt. Add the border top and bottom strips in the same way.
