Welcome to Design Wall Tuesday! We’re all scrambling among the hustle and bustle of the holidays (or in the middle of moving as you can read below) to find some time for quilting – whether it’s for gifts, magazine projects or just for ourselves. Here’s what the editors of McCall’s Quilting and Quiltmaker have been up to:
From Acquisitions Editor Lori Baker:
I finished quilting TWO quilts on the longarm last week. I’d like to get them bound so I can show them off next week. They both need black binding and I have it cut. Now to carve out an hour or so of time in the middle of moving. Can I do it???
From Features Editor Mary Kate Karr-Petras:
The time has come for me to stop practicing and deliberating and just get down to free-motion quilting this quilt. It’s taken me a lot longer to get to this point than I thought it would, but I’m as ready as I’m ever going to be to tackle free-motion quilting a 60″ x 60″ throw quilt on my domestic machine. This is an in-progress photo of a late-night basting session; because I was basting more densely than I usually do for straight-line quilting I ran out of safety pins three-quarters of the way through and had to put it away until the next day. Lesson learned: stock up on safety pins!
See you next week—I hope to have more to share with you then!
