When the staff at McCall’s Quick Quilts saw Kathryn Simel’s Best Day Ever quilt, we all fell in love with the infinite possibilities of letter quilt block designs. It wasn’t too long before we were all thinking of ways to put words on quilts. We expanded Kathryn’s idea to include the full alphabet, which is available as a web bonus from the Quick Quilts December/January 2017 issue.
Using letter blocks is a fun way to personalize a quilt! It’s such a simple way to design your own quilt. It’s perfect for so many occasions, like baby quilt designs for that next baby shower. I think the next time I need to piece a backing for a quilt I might just have to add the name of the recipient, even if it is just for me (wink, wink):
Here is a smattering of the word quilts from the McCall’s Quick Quilts staff:
My favorite one by far was made by Gigi. She reduced the letters so she could fit them all in. We all love it!
Be sure to download the web bonus and make a few of your own. We always like to see what you sew! Share pictures of what you came up with on the McCall’s Quilting Facebook page (make sure to like the page for up-to-date information and giveaways!). These alphabet quilt blocks are such a simple way to design your own quilt and get those creative juices flowing.
Have fun and quilt on!
