This time of year I am on the lookout for projects I can take with me when I travel. In the last few years I have become positively addicted to Dresden Plates! I love applique but sometimes I don’t have the energy to prepare a big complicated block. Dresden Plates are scrap friendly, easy to make and fun to sew.
My favorite way to make these is to use the EZ Dresden Plate Tool. It makes cutting the wedges for the plates a cinch! You just cut strips of fabric for the size you are using and cut the wedges from there. The sewing instructions included are easy to follow too.
Here is a little trick for making the center circle nice. Since there are a LOT of seams that need to be covered it can get downright messy. When I make my center circle I use Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Circles. If you haven’t tried these, they are great. After I have the circle all prepared I cut a piece of batting to go inside the circle
The extra fluff covers all those seams perfectly so when you stitch down the center it’s nice and neat. Go ahead and give it a try! You will love the results.
