Embroidery with Tula Pink

Get inspired to embroider with Tula Pink's Coloring with Thread book

When I think about my favorite fabric and pattern designers, Tula Pink immediately comes to mind. I’m a huge fan of her fanciful designs, innovative style, and cool quilt patterns. I have each of her books on my shelf and even share a copy of the Tula Pink Coloring Book with my daughter, Olivia. When Liv was in elementary school we used to color the illustrations for each other, then write notes on the back. It was a fun way to connect and touched my heart every time I found one of those personalized coloring pages on my nightstand. So I was thrilled when I heard Tula Pink was coming out with a new embroidery book, Coloring with Thread. I learned to embroider with my mom and I’m looking forward to sharing a similar experience with Liv, especially now that we’re solidly entrenched in the middle school years. Fortunately for us, the book is as inspiring as I hoped it would be.

Fortunately, Coloring with Thread helps take the guesswork out of embroidering the designs by offering enough information to help beginners get started while keeping its focus on inspiration. Each project features a suggested color guide (handpicked by Tula Pink herself) and illustrated step-by-step tutorials for more than twenty embroidery stitches. There are also tips on selecting thread, choosing and preparing fabric, transferring the designs, and more. But what to do with the finished project is up to you. Fortunately, whether you’re embellishing a tea towel, jean jacket, pillow, book bag, or the like, each of the designs can be sized to fit your canvas.
