Patterson Kathy 150px 150x150 Friday Free Quilt Patterns: Field of FlowersIt’s the height of summer here in the northern hemisphere, and fields of flowers are decorating the landscape everywhere. I saw one such field on my travels last weekend, and it brought to mind one of our outstanding free applique quilt patterns, this one designed by Joyce Robinson. So let’s make Joyce’s Field of Flowers this week’s Friday Freebie!

Field 600px Friday Free Quilt Patterns: Field of FlowersThe simple pieced background sets off the fast applique shapes so well. Joyce pins raw-edge flower shapes to the layered and basted background, and uses quilting stitches to hold them in place, controlling raw edges with a stiletto when necessary. It’s a super quick way to achieve an appliqued quilt design – give it a try!
