Baby quilt patterns designed with just a few classic blocks can look very traditional or very modern depending on the setting and fabric choices. When we saw the Flashing Lights lap quilt designed by Amy Friend for the January/February 2016 issue of McCall’s Quilting, we knew its classic Anvil Blocks would look great in a modern baby quilt pattern.
Those cool contemporary fabrics are from the Canyon collection by Kate Spain for Moda, by the way.
This was a super easy pattern to downsize for a baby. Just 9 blocks are all it takes to create a 36 1/2″ square version of this design, perfect for a cuddle quilt or play mat. Here’s a diagram of what Amy’s quilt looks like, sized for baby:
Cute and quick! Use similar fabrics, or adapt the design to your own color scheme. Either way, you’ll have an adorable baby quilt in no time.
