With temperatures rising in the northern hemisphere, many of us are looking for patterns for summery queen size quilts. This week’s Friday FREEbie not only fits that bill, it’s also perfect if you’re looking for jelly roll quilt patterns! Let’s take a peek at Gelato, designed by Laura Stone Roberts:
It takes just 54 precut 2 1/2″ x width of fabric strips (or less than 2 typical jelly rolls) plus a background fabric and binding fabric to make this fast, fun queen size quilt. Strip piecing speeds construction, and an all-machine-sewn flanged binding technique results in an even faster finish. You can have this quilt ready for summer of 2016, no sweat!
Gelato is a variation of the classic Chinese Coin design and it’s easy enough for even beginning quilters. Laura’s selection of frosty colors for her quilt make it the perfect summer bed covering, but this design is adaptable to any fabric style or color palette. We’ve seen reader versions of this quilt in Civil War repro fabrics, feminine florals, and patriotic red, white, and blue…you can’t go wrong with this one!
Even better, when you download this free jelly roll quilt pattern, you’ll also get two bonus quilt patterns for jelly rolls, Little Princess by Tricia Camp and Pick-Up Sticks by Sarah Price.
