This week’s Friday Free Quilt Pattern is an absolute classic, and a favorite of quilters everywhere. It uses foundation paper piecing and also some template piecing of curved patches, so it’s definitely not a beginner’s quilt pattern. But when you’re ready to make a New York Beauty quilt, you’ll want this free quilt pattern in your personal library:
Why did we call it New New York Beauty? Because it originally appeared in our newsstand-only special issue Heritage Quilts Made Modern 2014, and was made “new” by Mary Beth Krapil, Handi Quilter® national educator, who added amazing modern quilting to what was an unfinished quilt top by an anonymous maker. Can you imagine doing all that piecing and not adding your name to the quilt somehow? Maybe the maker was unexpectedly interrupted before she could quilt it and never got to sign it as she had planned.
