My favorite thing about the prospect of the changing seasons is the realization that I can, and should, start making my handmade gifts if I have any hope of finishing them all by the holidays.
Lucky for me, and everyone else who loves to make one-of-a-kind gifts, this is also the time of year that our special holiday issue is released. This year we are unveiling Modern Patchwork Gifts which is packed to the brim with over 30 festive projects and favorite holiday recipes.
In honor of this brand-new special issue magazine, I’ve decided to give you a peek inside at a few of the projects I can’t wait to make.
The first project I’m going to make is the Mini Mitten Coaster Set by Lori J. Miller. They are just so darn cute and this fat quarter-friendly project can be finished in an afternoon. With only three fabrics you can tailor these quilted coasters to your intended recipient. Plus, you can make them super scrappy by using your leftover holiday fabric.
How gorgeous is this quilt? The volume created in Nichole Ramirez’s Triangle Tree Wall Quilt using just solid fabrics and quilting by Janice Ryan is breathtaking. I think it would be fun to experiment with printed fabrics or even a different colorway.
Even though I live in a landlocked state and often get seasick on a boat, the Sail Away Travel Pouch by Minki Kim makes me feel like I missed my calling as a sailor. This pouch is a great way to use up leftover charm squares, jelly rolls, or other fabric scraps because you only need 2 ½” squares of fabric to piece this bag. Plus, you can ever go wrong giving someone a gift that includes hand embroidery. The recipient will feel the love in every stitch.
These darling Saltcellar Pincushions by Lesley and Lucy Storts are so quick and easy, you can make several in an afternoon. Now, I know what you’re thinking; who has a saltcellar let alone several on hand for this project? I hear what you’re saying, but think of all the fun you’ll have looking for them in antique stores, thrift stores, and online. Plus, there are so many small candle holders you could easily use for your own variation of this small project.
As you flip through the pages of Modern Patchwork Gifts you’ll discover modern quilts, holiday décor, and charming bags you’ll love to make. Order your copy today to be inspired by these fast and festive projects. If you have time in the studio now, download your copy instantly so you can work on any of the 12 projects you can sew in an afternoon.
Happy gift-making and giving!
