My First Quilt | Sara Gallegos | Runtime (6 min)
The first step in adding a border to a quilt top is to measure the quilt to determine how long the top, bottom, and side borders need to be. Sara shows how to measure to find that needed length. She then demonstrates how to sub-cut long pieced strips for use in a piano key border. Piano key borders can be all scrappy, or they can repeat fabrics as would happen when using strip sets to make the piecing quicker. Sara also talks about how to determine the number of strips needed to complete the length of the border being made for a quilt.
