142 | How to Make a T-Shirt Quilt
My First Quilt | Sara Gallegos | Runtime (8 min)
Making a t-shirt quilt is a little different than making a quilt using only quilting cottons, because t-shirts are made of knit fabric and have a stretch to them. Sara shows the steps to prepare a t-shirt for inclusion in a quilt, including cutting off sleeves and other unneeded areas, stabilizing the motif, and cutting out the motif. Once prepped, there are many layouts which can be used depending on the size of the t-shirt motifs. Sara also talks about why she usually uses a half inch seam allowance rather than the standard quarter inch, specifically when she’s making t-shirt quilts.
