If you enjoy making charity quilts, here’s an organization that would love your help.

When seriously ill children are hospitalized, they spend countless hours alone or with one parent, and a quilt can be a source of comfort for them. Quilts for Kids is an organization dedicated to wrapping children with life-threatening illnesses in quilts. To date, their volunteer quilters have made a difference in the lives of over 100,000 children in hospitals across the country.

“Seeing a child fall asleep with a smile on his or her face-that’s perfection for me,” says Quilts for Kids founder Linda Arye. “It is what we are all about. A simple thing like a quilt seems to have magical powers when we place it on a child.”

Here’s how you can help:

1. Make a quilt to comfort a child. Use your stash of brightly colored kid-friendly fabric to create a patchwork quilt.
2. Donate fun child-oriented fabrics to be made into quilts for children. Send the fabric to Quilts for Kids headquarters or to your local chapter.
3. Connect with your local chapter of Quilts For Kids to see how you can help them create and generate more quilts for children in need in your community. Get your quilt guild involved or bring your quilting friends together to create fun quilts for kids.
4. Encourage a quilt shop in your community to do a workshop for Quilts for Kids.
5. Join Quilts for Kids at Headquarters in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania for a workshop on the first Sunday of each month.
6. Make a financial donation to help pay for shipping quilts to children at hospitals across the country.
7. Spread the word that Quilts For Kids is in need of fabric, funding, and quilters.
