Patriotic Quilts for Flag Day
Growing up Flag Day was a big deal (or so it seemed to my seven-year-old self) in my elementary school. The whole school assembled in front of the school in the bus circle and an enterprising eighth grader came down from the middle school and played “Taps” on a bugle as the flag was raised in front of everyone. It was extremely moving and even though it’s a memory from so long ago it sticks in my mind as a wonderful honoring of the American flag and everything it represents.
Similar sentiments regarding the flag are common, as evidenced by the multitudes of flag patterns available. We’d like to offer you this FREE flag quilt pattern, “Firework Flag” to get your sewing started this flag day!
I love a mini quilt that can be utilized in so many different ways!
Bonus points to this little pattern as it celebrates the red, white, and blue in a great, patriotic quilt. This mini quilt can be used just like that—a small wall hanging, or can be easily be made into a pillow (it finishes at 18″ square). Use some colored canvas or Essex linen in place cotton fabric and create a great outdoor decoration as well. Because this quilt is so small, it can be used as a ‘block’ for a larger project.
Wouldn’t this be a fun block to make into a table runner?
