9 Quick Gift Ideas to Make from the Quilting Company Staff

This time of year I am always looking for quick holiday gifts to make and give as hostess gifts, teacher gifts, and extras to have on hand for the occasional drop-in guest. I decided to ask my co-workers at The Quilting Company for their go-to quick gift to make. Here is what they said!

I love to do potholders (with a pocket) then slide a favorite recipe in the pocket. I use fun fabric or an orphan block and can make one in 30 minutes or so. – Lori Baker, Editor, Love of Quilting, and Acquisitions Editor for The Quilting Company

Lori talks more about this project in this blog about hostess gifts.

Lori uses an orphan block and adds a pocket, but this pattern is so cute—we just had to show you!

A set microwave bowl holders–with a few fat quarters and an hour or so of time. Everyone I give one to laughs at it and then later they are raving about how awesome they are. They also work well for a gallon of ice cream 🙂 – Anissa Arnold, Associate Editor, McCall’s Quick Quilts

Small zippered totes. (Start with super-easy technique from a video on Missouri Star Quilt site–but add my own twist.) I fill with small lotion samples, lip balm, etc. Can whip these up pretty quickly once I pull out fabrics, zippers, fusible batting, and a small orphan block. –Eileen Fowler, Associate Editor, Pre-Cut Patchwork & Easy Quilts

I make pouches and have them on hand for gifts. The Itajime Jewelry Pouch is one of the patterns I use. – Vivika DeNegre, Editorial Director

Mug rugs are quick and stash friendly. I find them to be a great accompaniment to some yummy coffee, tea, or cocoa mix! – Annette Falvo, Associate Editor, Pre-Cut Patchwork & Easy Quilts

A wine bottle wrap or a set of those cute little lid-grabbing potholders. – Tricia Patterson, Group Editorial Director

If I’m making someone a quilt, but I’m not done by the due date (ahem), I’ll often give them one finished “promise” block as a show of what’s to come. A quickie infinity scarf is a good option, too. I love the one in this magazine. – Vanessa Lyman, Senior Content Developer
