Quilting Arts TV

Quilting Arts TV is a national Public Television program hosted by Susan Brubaker Knapp. Offering something for everyone who loves quilting, the show is where art and embellishment meet traditional quilt making. Join us every week as we cover a variety of fiber art and mixed-media techniques from sewing, surface design, and embellishing to hand and machine stitching and projects you can make on your own, including quilts, bags, wearables, and home decor. Top quilt artists and designers, as well as mixed-media artists, join Susan to share their expertise in art and design concepts for quilts, including surface design techniques, free-motion embroidery, fabric collage, quilting with alternative fabrics, mixed media, quilted home decor, and much more.

Current and past seasons (and individual episodes) are available in the store! Check your local PBS listings to find out when episodes of Quilting Arts TV are airing in your area.

Is there a way to watch the shows through your website?

      Hi Marie C,
The individual episodes of Quilting Arts TV can be watched on our website! They are available for purchase individually or you can choose to purchase a monthly or yearly subscription to our Quilting Videos. The other option is to buy a DVD or Video Download of Quilting Arts TV one season at a time.
      Happy quilting!

If Quilting Arts is carried on any of the public television stations in your state you can probably watch them online streaming from the public television channel’s website. In our state (North Carolina) we can donate any amount, $10.00 or more and have a membership in our public broadcasting system. Then we have what is called a “Passport.” That is what we sign in with on the site and watch any show that has already been broadcast. For awhile the schedule kept changing for Quilting Arts so I would have my DVR set to record it and when I had time to watch a couple of days later another program had been run in what used to be the QATV time slot. That’s when I found out about the “Passport” membership. You might want to try that. Good luck and have fun quilting!

Where do you find the project instructions and quilting tips mentioned on the shows.

      Hi Debra,
Are there specific project instructions or a particular season of Quilting Arts TV you’re looking for information about? We’ve just transitioned materials from separate websites into the Quilting Company website and we are still working on making QATV projects available to viewers. As we are working on this project, please feel free to comment back with which projects you’re looking for or reach out to our customer service department so we can send you the projects directly to your inbox.

I found this answer and have a question about another program. (By the way, even though I usually don[‘t have problems, this grey text color is so light I am barely able to see it. You need to provide more contrast for people who have vision problems.) In Season 19, episode 12, a lady is using a set of 12 of some type of art sticks to color sheets with textile medium but there is no mention of what the sticks are. I would like to know. Thank you, Bernadine

          Hi Bernadine,
The art sticks Melissa Averinos used in her segment in season 19, episode 12 are Derwent Inktense Blocks. We don’t say brand names on the show because PBS doesn’t allow it. I hope this helps!

      Hi Sandra,
The website is still under construction, but you will be able to click on the DVD to find information about each series soon. Are there any specific episodes or seasons I can help you out with? I’d be happy to send the project sheets to you for a particular episode in the meantime.

      Hi Jeannine,
Thank you for your patience while our Quilting Arts TV section of the website is still under construction. Currently, the QATV 1500 projects are available for purchase in an ebook called Modern & Creative How-tos from Quilting Arts TV Series 1500. Here is a link to download instructions for the Wool Applique Needle Case as seen in episode 1611. If there are any other projects I can help you locate please let me know.

What is the terminology for the fancy bead/sequin stitches used in show 1603? I really enjoyed the projects but they go so fast that I can’t remember all the ways to do they show. If I knew what it’s called I could look up other examples on the internet and peruse in my slower time frame so I can understand. Or if these guests have books maybe I can get. Thanks for info!

      Hi Deb,
I’ve looked through the projects from episode 1603 of Quilting Arts TV and here’s what I found:
In the section with Catherine Redford, she uses the following beading methods to create the edges of her pincushion: picot edges, wrapped beaded edges, and beaded arches.
Jane LaFazio also uses beads and sequins to embellish the Milagros she creates on her segment on Quilting Arts TV.
      I hope this helps!
