Join the SOUVENIR HUNT to enter 1 of 3 Grand Prize Giveaways.
Once again, the Quiltmaker staff is excited to bring you the 100 blocks we selected to inspire the quilt designer in you. In volume 16, as with the ones that came before it, you’ll find blocks from your favorite designers and from new ones we’ve discovered. The instructions in the issue are complete, ready for you to decide the perfect setting, whether you chose to make a 1-block pillow, select several for a wall hanging or some for a crib-size quilt or just replicate a bunch for a throw or larger bed quilt.
Are you ready for a block preview? We’re back on the road again!
We’re going to take a look at the blocks from 51 designers over the next 5 days. We’ll present the blocks with a bit of description. Don’t drive by the block stops! With each of the blocks we’re giving you a link to the designers’ blog posts so you can learn more about the inspiration behind their block design, examples of quilt designs using the blocks and a lot more. Some designers will give you a chance to win prizes from their blog site; some are giving you an answer to one of the Souvenir Hunt daily questions so you can enter the drawing for one of the grand prize giveaways at the end of the week.
Travel with your copy of Volume 16 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. It’s available on the newsstand now, or you can download a copy from QuiltandSewShop by clicking here.
Before we join the rally, let me tell about the Rally Souvenir Hunt. You know how quilters like to pick up treasures and bring home souvenirs when they travel? Join the adventure of the Souvenir Hunt each day for a chance at a grand prize. We’re also giving away 3 grand prizes at the end of the rally.
You will have until 12:00 midnight Sunday, November 19th to submit your entry. We will announce the winners on our blog post Monday, November 20th! Read more details about the Souvenir Hunt below.
Just one more thing before we go. We need to take a look at the big map. Notice all the blocks sprinkled all over the map? They mark the locations of our 26 block testers. They committed to making at least 1 block a week over 3½ months. Don’t forget to check out who they are in Volume 16. These incredible ladies have diligently made blocks, completed evaluations and sent us feedback to make sure our instructions are complete and accurate. They are an essential part of the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks team. Thank you testers!
ARE YOU READY? Let’s get on the road for our 1st day of travel. There’s so much to see! Here are the souvenirs you should look for today.
On the road again!
Designed by: Swan Amity Sheridan, Swan Amity Studios
Living Flame is a vibrant flower applique created with Watercolor Batiks by Hoffman Fabrics. Swan’s layers of petals and leaves have a striking effect set against a black solid background don’t they?
Designed by: Marilyn Foreman, Quilt Moments
Can you guess the technique Marilyn used to make Flying ‘Round? Look at it closely. Did she use Triangle-Squares or Stitch & Flip units? Will either one of the techniques give you the same block design?
Designed by: Connie Sue Haidle, Apple Blossom Quilts
Make a gift of Fall Delight. This block could be your contribution to Thanksgiving dinner with family or friends. Make it as a pillow or a set of placemats would be awesome!
Designed by: Carl Hentsch, 3 Dog Design Company
The Saffy’s Star block is a foundation-pieced pattern made with Seventy Six and Insignia, both by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics. I’m curious… what would the block look like if you inverted the sections?
Designed by: JoAnn Hoffman, Paha Sapa Traders
Dragonfly Dance is made more fanciful with Kaffe Fassett for FreeSpirit Fabrics. Each set of the fusible appliqued dragonfly wings is made with the same fabric. The print in the fabric gives a subtle difference to each of the wings to suggest movement.
Designed by: Moira McSpadden, Sewn to Own Creations
Feel the beat! Not your everyday heart-themed block, Moira took the center of a Pinwheel in Heartbeat to spin it out to show the rhythm of a heart’s beat with fabric.
Designed by: Heidi Priedmore, The Whimsical Workshop
Let the Reindeer Games begin with Heidi’s bright-eyed reindeer. She made the block with Modern Melody Basics by Henry Glass. Heidi’s fusible applique reindeer is perfect for a quilt block, or make it extra sweet quilted on a holiday sweatshirt or a nightshirt.
Designed by: Denise Russell, Pieced Brain Quilt Designs
More whimsy created by Denise with BFFs and fusible applique. She used googly eyes to give her best friends more love. This is another pattern that could fun on sweatshirt, nightshirt or special child’s pillow. Make one for your child and his or her friend, too!
Designed by: Cindy Staub, Quilt Doodle Designs
Tis the season to think cooler weather and holiday joy—and Cindy’s Frosty’s Sweater definitely speaks of snow. This delightful snowman is put together with Christmas-colored fabrics, embroidery and a snowflake button to top off the tree.
Designed by: Jennifer Thomas, Curlicue Creations
Grow a Little Love with Jennifer’s applique flower. She shaped her block of love with Peony Passion by Lynnea Washburn for Northcott Fabics. The colors are bright and happy; the block design made with, you know it, a love of quilting.
Designed by: Tricia Maloney, Orphan Quilt Designs
And, here’s more love in a block named Tortoise Love. Be sure to make a block stop to read the backstory about this little fella’s block. He’s a quick and fun fusible applique.
Whew! We’ve made it to the end of our first travel day.
Lots more travel fun the rest of the week so be sure to…
