Quilty July/August 2018

As the temperatures heat up, you may not have quiltmaking at the forefront of your mind, but what better time to quilt than on these long, sunny summer days? Use the extra hours of daylight to finish the projects you started over the winter, to sew fun and funky summer quilts or to start a quilt for fall or holiday gift giving. This issue of Quilty is chock full of patterns perfect for all seasons and skill levels.

Log Cabin-ish is the focus of this Quilty issue and boy, do we have log cabins for you! Virginia Braid, Rainbow Room, Pinwheel Row and Somewhere in Indiana are all patterns that use log cabin-like piecing techniques.

Somewhere in Indiana also features chambray, a great fabric to add to your quilting repertoire. Read about the history of chambray and get great tips on sewing with it in A Material Difference. And check out Riveting, a chambray quilt with big pops of color. Once it’s complete, you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it!

If you’re feeling bright and cheery, then check out ROYGBIV and Woodland Enchantment, fun quilts showcasing the colors of the rainbow. And, of course, Rainbow Room, a log cabin quilt bursting with so much color it is the perfect summer throw or bed cover.

If you’re like me, and you love “traditional made modern”, then you definitely want to give Modern Pioneer a try. With a traditional pattern and contemporary fabrics, it’s a quilt that any pioneer woman would love to snuggle up in.

And last, but certainly not least… Ever dream of using plush fabric in your quilts but were too afraid? Fear no more, Ebony Love is here! In this issue’s Love Your Longarmer series, Ebony gives great advice and takes the fear out of quilting with plush fabric.

Happy summertime quilting, we’ll see you again in September!
