7 of 8 | Ribbon Floral’s Ribbon Border Corners

Ribbon Floral Block of the Month | Jenny Kae Parks | Runtime (8 min)

Jenny demonstrates how to line up the patches in Ribbon Floral‘s corner units for accurate piecing. She talks about what to do if the stretch of the bias makes some of patches a slightly different length than the other patches, and she shows sewing together the rows in order to make the full corner unit. Then see how to outer border goes together with each of its patch units.

I am so frustrated! This has been going together beautifully, now I’m trying to put on the outside border and it is almost 3 inches too long. What have I done wrong and how to i fix it?

So disappointed with months 7 and 8. The measurement for the light purple swirl specifically says to cut the 3.5″ strips on the “9” inch mark on the ruler. I did all the cutting for 7 & 8 before assembling. What a HUGE mistake. As I started assembly I realized there was no way the 4 x 3.5″ blocks the strips attach to could equal 9″ strips. I cut before piecing. Month 7 and 8 light purple swirl fabric wasted, and now I have to find more at my own expense according to your helpdesk number. Block 4 had similar instructions and came out fine, so I really don’t think this is all on me – other than cutting ahead before sewing. Basically I wasted $39 x 8 due to poor instructions, which the video did not clarify. Last purchase I will make from KSQ Love of Quilting.

I think I figured it out. Seems like you have to be really careful when adding the 7″wide striped border and finishing the mitered corners. Even though my corners looked flat, I checked them with my ruler to be sure that they were truly square. I would suggest placing the fabric face down, then checking the “square” of the corner, iron it and place a straight edge behind one side then run a pencil back and forth along the straight edge to get a more square sewing line. Hope that helps.
