The July/August 2019 issue of Quiltmaker has hit the newsstands, and we couldn’t be more excited! To the editorial team, every issue feels like our baby.

From concept to completion of the print issue, we have planned, chosen quilts, calculated yardages, written patterns and poured over every word. With this particular issue, one of our themes was patriotic quilts–“Rockets Red Glare”, making it fun to choose the quilt designs and some select designers to feature.

Rockets Red Glare

Our cover beauty, Rockets Red Glare by designer Karen Ackva, (made by Ruthie Wasmuth) is a dynamic display of stars. I love the bands of color she used for her background. It adds an extra level of interest to the design. This quilt just might make me get over my fear of triangles.

Soaring Heights

If you are looking for a quick project, don’t miss Soaring Heights by Mary Hertel featuring dimensional stripes and a bald eagle. Mary truly is a paper piecing genius. With this design, we love the clever use of flanges and stitching that adds a “wave” to this patriotic design. This quilt is perfect for adding a festive touch to your July décor!
