The Sew Many Tips below were originally published in the Love of Quilting November/December 2018 issue—we also feature quilting tips submitted by our readers on the Love of Quilting PBS TV show! If you have a great quilting tip, we’d love to hear from you! Find out how to submit your favorite tips below.
TIP #1: ALL THOSE PRETTY PILLOWCASES
I’ve collected many hand-embroidered, tatted, and crocheted pillowcases and decided to make a quilt from them. This strip method was an easy way to build the quilt!

TIP #2: LAMINATE IT!
When I need templates for appliqué or cutting quilt patches, I go to my local print shop and have the pattern pieces laminated. They prove to be very durable!

TIP #3: SAVE THE CAP
I lost the spoool cap that keeps the spool on the spindle on my sewing machine. I ordered a replacement, but in the meantime, I discovered I could use a milk cap! I punched a hole in the center and it went on smoothly.

TIP #4: LAYER ON A NOODLE!
When spray basting your quilt sandwich, use a pool noodle! Roll batting on your pool noodle. Lay your backing flat, wrong side up, spray with basting spray, then smoothly unroll the batting on top. Repeat for the quilt top. It will keep your quilt top smooth and manageable.
