TIP #1: HOLD ON TO YOUR QUILT!
I machine-quilt my quilts, and was constantly fighting with clamps that didn’t hold firmly enough, so I cut a piece of rubberized shelf covering a bit larger than the clip, and put between the clip and my quilt. Works great!
TIP #2: TEACHING TOOL FOR HAND QUILTING
When I teach hand-quilting, I place two or three layers of plastic wrap in a hoop so my students can see what happens on both sides of the cloth when you hand-quilt.
TIP #3: WHERE WAS THAT NEEDLE??
When hand quilting, I keep a piece of contrasting fabric nearby to stick my needle into so I can find it quickly when I stop and start again. This bright green shows up great against the red!
TIP #4: NO RUNS ALLOWED!
I keep hand-sewing projects at-the-ready for waiting at doctors’ offices or riding in the car. I attach a bobbin or spool of thread to the back of my project with a piece of ribbon and safety pin, so that I can tuck the entire project away quickly without having my thread roll away across the floor of a crowded waiting room!
