Can you believe how this year is flying by? It seems like it was just yesterday that I was toasting to the New Year, and now we just sent the December issue of McCall’s Quilting to the printer! (Yes, we work on issues months in advance.) For this issue, we wanted big, cozy quilts—and boy, did our designers come through! Our cover beauty is called Holly Star and it was designed and made by Jo Moury. This masterpiece includes piecing, appliqué, couching, and beadwork. She used the Cardinal Song collection for Moda Fabrics. Isn’t it magnificent?
Charisma Horton designed the delightful Home Again using fabrics from the Home for Christmas collection by Dan DiPaolo for Clothworks Fabrics. She even stitched up the Christmas stockings that were part of the panel in that collection.
Don’t miss Pointsettia Reel by Patti Carey. Patti used the Deck the Halls by Deborah Edwards for Northcott and it is spectacular! Look at how she used that amazing border print—gorgeous, isn’t it?
Speaking of big quilts, we kick off a 3-part series with Interstellar, designed by Karen O’Conner. This block of the month quilt is a stunning array of star blocks inspired by her father’s love of space. Be sure to check it out.
If you are looking for a quick project, Little Red Truck is the latest design from Mary Hertel. This adorable tree skirt features paper pieced red pickup trucks carrying Christmas trees. If you love it, don’t miss Mary’s sister design in the November/December 2019 issue of Quiltmaker magazine. We hope you love the designs in this issue as much as we loved choosing them.
I hope this little sneak peek of the November/December 2019 issue of McCall’s Quilting has you excited for the second half of the year. We had a wonderful time choosing all of the great projects found in the pages.
May the remainder of 2019 bring time to sew and a bobbin that never runs out!
