Shawne Kaeser of Chester, Virginia named her rendition of Emerald City, from Quiltmaker March/April 2015 (No.162) Memories in Diamonds. Referring to a photo of the bridal flowers chosen by her son and daughter-in-law, she built a color palette consisting of burgundy, two shades of pink, green and a pop of yellow. The simply colored gray and black Irish Chain blocks help to visually strengthen the diamond motif, pulling the eye inward, focusing on the central colored blocks.

Shawne said she struggled a bit with finding the perfect two gray fabrics, in order to create the desired effect. The final choice resulted in using two grays and a white fabric printed with hearts and circles—after all love is eternal. Joyce Bailey of North Field, Virginia quilted Memories in Diamonds edge-to-edge using a Ribbons and Roses motif.

Shawne’s creative touches to Emerald City, have resulted in a beautiful heirloom for her son and daughter-in-law.
