The Log Cabin block is the perfect place to start for a beginner quilter. Kate reviews all the essential steps in getting started from how to cut and pick your fabrics to the importance of seam allowance and how to make your first block. Once you have the essentials down, she'll walk you through block variations and how to have fun with your color choices. This course is a 'must have' for any new quilter or for advanced quilters looking to add more personalization to their quilts!
In this course Kate will start with the basics, from picking fabric to getting ready to cut and sew. Then, she will review cutting techniques and ways to get that good 1/4” seam allowance. Next, she will walk through two different ways to piece the blocks while covering the process of piecing, pressing and sub cutting techniques.
In the last lesson, Kate will show you some different setting options. Then she will show you how to sew the blocks together, how to measure for borders and how to finish off that quilt with a perfect binding! Once you have the basics down, then it will be time to take those skills to the next level. Be sure to sign up for Kate’s second class in the Log Cabin series where she will explore lots of block variations as well as how to paper piece your Log Cabin block. See you in class!
Kate made her first quilt as a teenager and found that making quilts was a great way to express her creative side. She called it her therapy! In 2003, while still working as a nurse, she started a quilt pattern business with a friend. Now, she designs for various quilt magazines and fabric companies. She is the co-author of the book Smash Your Precut Stash from C&T Publishing and publishes her own quilt patterns. Her goal is simple: to help you make a quilt. She feels quilting is about creating, having fun and being part of a community. Visit her websiteto view her blog to see what quilty shenanigans she is up to now!
