Web Seminar Description

The Fold and Sew method is a quick and easy way to make a quilt and is ideal for charity quilts, baby quilts, quilts for senior center residents, or any time you want to piece something up quickly. This technique uses 10″, 5″, and 2 1/2″ precut fabrics, or it’s a great stash buster if you want to cut your own before beginning the piecing process.

From Peg: “I came up with Fold and Sew one day when I was desperate for a fast and easy way to make a quilt from a gift of 5″ and 10″ precuts. I’d just finished a large quilt with lots of rotary cutting, piecing, and triangle points to match. I couldn’t face lining up another seam and didn’t want to drag out the rotary cutter and board. I centered a 5″ precut on a 10″ precut and liked the look but knew that piecing it in the traditional manner would require rotary cutting. The idea to fold the 10″ precut over the raw edges of the 5″ precut and enclose the raw edges in a 1/4″ seam, popped into my head. That’s how my first Fold and Sew quilt came to be.

In this online web seminar, you will learn:

  • How to make the “Square in a Square” block.
  • How to make 5 other quilt blocks using this technique – all by varying the position of the precuts in each block
  • Basic rules for using the Sew And Fold method
