If you want to learn how to turn old ties into new quilted projects, then this course is perfect for you! From start to finish you’ll learn tips and techniques to work with the unique fabric of ties and by the end, you’ll turn them into a completely new project. Check out what you’ll learn!
Course Outline:
Lesson 1: Collecting & Evaluating
This lesson will show you how to evaluate the ties and decide what parts will be used in the quilt and blocks.
Lesson 2: Making Ties Into Fabric
This lesson will show you how to open up your ties and make them into fabric.
Lesson 3: Stabilizing
This lesson will discuss stabilizers and demonstrate how to apply them to the ties.
Lesson 4: Bow Tie Block
This lesson will show how to work with ties and fabric.
Lesson 5: Rail Fence Block
This lesson will show how to work with ties of different fabrics.
Lesson 6: Suggestions for Quilting
This lesson will show suggestions for making the ties into quilts.
Students must have:
- 1/2 yard Bosal fusible knit, tricot
- ¼ yard SoftFuse
- Applique Pressing Sheet
- Pressing cloth
- Bowl of water
- Fabric scissors
- Straight pins
- Seam Ripper
- Sewing machine
- Extra sewing machine needles
- Thread, neutral color Gray, white or cream (optional – thread that matches color of t-shirts you are using)
- Bobbin
- ¼” foot
- open toed foot
- Rotary Cutter with new blade
- Cutting Mat at least 18” square
- Largest square ruler you have. If you only have a 12 ½” square that is OK but it would be better if you could borrow a bigger one from a friend.
- 24” ruler
- 2 Ties that color coordinate from your local thrift shop or 2 ties you are planning to throw out or give away.
