The Incredibles 2: A Quilt Design to Launch the Movie

That's Incredible Quilt

The Parr family, Mr. Incredible and his wife Elastigirl, are the superheroes of the first movie created by Disney/Pixar, The Incredibles. In the recently released The Incredibles 2, their son Jack-Jack joins them to Save the City. These action-packed animated movies are not just for kids. As a role model for families, they cross many generations, people who care about truth and moral values, creating and defending communities for a better society.

Kristofer and family

When I learned of The Incredibles 2 fabric collection by Springs Creative inspired by the ©Disney/Pixar’s The Incredibles 2 movie I immediately thought of my nephew Kristofer, his bride-to-be Ashley and her daughter Carmen. So many enthusiasts share their passion for cosplay, anime and comic conventions. Kristofer has carefully selected elements of his costume to create the characters he portrays. Ashley designs and sews her own costumes to create her characters, and to dress her superhero daughter. I couldn’t resist the idea of a quilt design featuring the Incredibles 2 fabric, made especially for them, as a gift to celebrate something they share together as a family.

For my throw-size quilt design I chose the Save the Day panel depicting the Parr family as the focus. I selected the classic Friendship Star block for a pieced border to add to the action because it reminds me of a Ninja star, another action hero symbol. I leveraged the design for the Corner block from a symbol found in the fabrics of the collection.  Badges and Logo fabrics from the collection carried the theme to the backing and binding.

The excitement of the finished quilt came with the selection of the quilting and the special embroidery effects. Quilted lightning bolts and embroidered splashes of words across the quilt are the must-have finish for all superhero quilts. Zip! Go! Pop! Pow! Blam!
