The holiday season is behind us and the New Year is in full swing. So what are we going to quilt now? Some lovely projects for Valentine’s Day, of course!
Gather up your favorite red and pink fabrics and find inspiration in the heart-themed quilts, table runners, and pillows we’ve gathered below. These designs are perfect for decorating your home or making something special for someone you love.
Love Triangle table runner: Dress up your table for the season with this runner designed by Lynette Jensen of Thimbleberries. I just adore how Lynette used three-dimensional scallops to create the unique heart border around the outside edge. The runner finishes at 18″ x 42″. Kits are available while supplies last and include a small bonus pattern!
Here’s My Heart table runner: Medium and dark pink batiks shine on this romantic pieced runner designed by Debra Finan. Made using 2 1/2-inch pre-cut strips, this is another perfect option for adorning your table this Valentine’s Day. Finished size is 44″ x 12″.
Love Letters quilt: Diane Harris combined three quilt blocks from past issues of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks to create this lovely foundation-pieced throw. The three original blocks were Julie Comstack’s Love Squared (#567) from 100 Blocks Vol. 6, and Diane’s blocks Surrounded by Love (#1031) from Vol. 11 and Love Chain (#1177) from Vol. 12.
This design is great for scraps – don’t be afraid to use many different reds and pinks together as long as they contrast with the pale gray background. Stitch-and-flip makes it easy to create the little hearts in these surprisingly forgiving blocks. A wide border adds to the design, and allover quilting adds a final flourish. The finished size of the quilt is 50″ x 50″.
Making Valentines quilt: When creating this charming quilt, Wendy Sheppard says she “set out to design a pieced heart block that would be super easy to construct so that the REALLY fun part would be picking out the fabrics for the different sections of the block.” She definitely succeeded! The blocks are basically made up of flying geese units and rectangles, and the rusty red and gray fabrics used on Wendy’s version give the design a Scandinavian twist. Finished size is 62 1/2″ x 73 1/2″.
Hugs and Kisses pillow: Add a fast touch of Valentine spirit to your home with this whimsical pillow designed by Patrick Lose. Made here in cute and contemporary prints, this would also make a great gift! The pillow project finishes at 20 1/2″ x 20 1/2″.
