Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and love is in the air, so we asked members of the quilting team to share some of their favorite heart-themed projects. With quick projects and digital patterns that are available for immediate download, you still have plenty of time to make a heartfelt gift for your favorite person!
From Content Director Carolyn Beam:
I love Aby Dolinger’s Chain of Hearts design. We included patterns for both a large throw quilt and a table runner in McCall’s Quilting January/February 2018, and a kit containing all the fabric you need for the table runner is also available.
From Senior Graphic Designer Genevieve Stafford Hook:
My favorite new Valentine’s Day project is the I Heart You pillow from McCall’s Quick Quilts February/March 2018. The pillow is so cute with the prairie point border and the folded triangle-squares to put secret notes in. It’s also fast to put together, allowing me to wait to the last minute!
From Art Director Denise Starck, Art Director:
Easy piecing with big patches makes Hearts Afloat a quick gift for someone special. I like that I can use a variety of bright scrappy fabrics and make a dent in my stash. The scalloped edge is easier than it looks!
From Acquisitions Editor Lori Baker:
I love the idea of being able to send messages with a quilt so Best Day Ever is my favorite idea for Valentine’s presents. Using the free web bonus block patterns, I can spell out whatever I want in colors that suit the recipient to make a truly personal gift. By doing a little math, I can even make the letters smaller or larger if I want.
From Associate Editor Anissa Arnold
Tell a sweetheart how much they mean to you with this quick Valentine’s Day pillow by Kim Mohr. I Heart You is so cute and it’s fast to make because it involves no quilting, binding or zipper!
From Managing Editor Tricia Patterson:
A friend of mine sent a message last week asking me to contribute a Valentine block to her friendship quilt. What a great idea for quilty friends! I know each one of her friends will contribute a symbol of their own style and quilting interest. I decided to select a patched heart for my block. I like to embellish my quilts, and I really like crazy quilts, so a patched heart will give me lots of options. I can use a variety of textured fabrics, embroider some of the patches and add some bling, if I want to. I’m trying to decide between 2 patterns I found through The Quilting Company website, Patched-Up Hearts and Here’s My Heart. No matter which one I choose to make, my valentine heart block will be a gift of love, and friendship.
From Features Editor Mary Kate Karr-Petras:
Chances are you wouldn’t have time to make this quilt from a kit before Valentine’s Day, but you might have time to make Heartfelt as a gift for loved ones before wedding season!
