Welcoming Mixed Media to Quilting Arts with Hearts

Our best-selling online course is back and better than ever! APQS Longarm Certification Sponsored by Quilting Daily has been revised and updated. Not only will you learn how to make beautiful quilts, you’ll also gain skills to turn your passion into a paycheck with tips on how to run your own quilting business.

Do you dabble in paint, fabric, and collage?

Enjoy creating art quilts that incorporate unusual found objects? Or are you a serial-crafter who loves to explore mixed media? Then you may have been familiar with QUILTING ARTS’ sister publication, CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS.

As you may know, F+W media ceased publication of CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS magazine with the Winter 2018 edition.

I understand that the closing of this publication is very personal for the mixed-media community. Since its debut in 2004, CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS was a creative resource of inspiration and techniques that encouraged both beginning and seasoned artists to explore and experiment. It was a unique magazine with a strong following of creative artists.

This publication began as a spin-off of QUILTING ARTS magazine, focusing on many similar techniques, but with a more eclectic theme. As a budding mixed-media and quilt artist, I was one of the first to jump on board and subscribe and, like many of you, I savored every issue and read each one cover-to-cover. It will always be one of my all-time favorite magazines.

I enjoyed working with the former staff of CPS, and even occasionally provided projects for their publications. You’ll see my “Milagros” in a future issue of Quilting Arts, as well as the Fabric + Paper + Stitch eBook published by CPS in 2018.

As the editor of QUILTING ARTS, I’d like to welcome CPS subscribers to our tribe.

At QA, we love mixed media, revel in richly patterned embroidery, dabble with paint, stencils, and print, and can’t wait to incorporate more collage and assemblage in this publication. CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS subscriptions will be automatically converted to QUILTING ARTS subscription as of the April/May 2019 publication.

The April 2019 issue features lots of great articles, including fabric collage techniques, cyanotype printing, color theory, and so much more!

As makers, we are inspired by the same rich heritage and share a passion for creative exploration. I look forward to featuring more mixed-media and collage art on our pages starting with the April/May 2019 issue, and extend a heart-felt welcome to each and every one of you.

Here’s a sneak peek of Lesly Riley’s home studio featured in the April/May issue of Quilting Arts. Lesley also shares her wet cyan printing technique.
